Competitive Spirit,
Balanced Life

Sport at St Peters is built on a simple belief: every student deserves the opportunity to challenge themselves, compete with purpose, and grow through the experience of being part of a team. Whether a student is aiming for a state title or stepping onto a field for the first time, there is a pathway here for them.

The College competes through the AIC (Associated Independent Colleges) for boys and QGSSSA (Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association) for girls — two of Queensland's most prestigious school sporting competitions. Alongside those, the Brisbane School Girls Rowing Association (BSRA) and various club competitions ensure students at every level get genuine, meaningful competition.

At junior levels, the emphasis is on enjoyment, skill development, and learning to compete with integrity. At senior levels, the bar rises — and so does the support. Elite coaching, high-performance facilities, and structured development programs mean those who want to excel have every resource to do so.

Everything You Need to Know About Sport at St Peters

From first-time participants to elite athletes, here are the questions families most often ask about sport at St Peters.

Book a Campus Tour

St Peters offers more than 25 sports across the year, including swimming, rowing, rugby union, AFL, cricket, tennis, netball, basketball, volleyball, cross country, athletics, touch football, water polo, golf, sailing, and more. Most sports are available from Prep through to Year 12.

Not at all. St Peters has pathways for every level — from students competing for the first time through to national and international representatives. The College's philosophy is that sport is for everyone, and every student is encouraged to participate in at least one sport per year.

The Associated Independent Colleges (AIC) competition covers boys' sport, and the Queensland Girls' Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA) covers girls'. St Peters competes in both, fielding A, B, C, and development teams across most sports so that students of all abilities can represent the College.

St Peters Western is an elite swimming club based on campus and recognised by Swimming Australia as a High Performance Centre — one of only a handful in Queensland. The club is open to students and the broader community, and has produced numerous Olympians and national champions.

Campus tours are available on weekdays during term. You can book directly through the Admissions office or via the College website. Tours include the aquatic centre, sports fields, gymnasium, and other key facilities, and are led by current students or Admissions staff.

The Indooroopilly campus features a 50m long course pool, a 25m short course pool, Mayer Oval, Cromwell Oval, cricket nets, tennis courts, a gymnasium, and a High Performance Room. A new Sports Hall — featuring three multi-purpose courts, a large gym with a 20m sprint track, and advanced sports performance technology — is under construction and due to open in 2026.

Participation in the College's co-curricular program, which includes sport, is an important part of life at St Peters. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in at least one sport per year. Some year levels have structured HPE and sport requirements as part of their timetable.
